Alexandra (Alex) Macias, CPDT-KA began her dog training career in 2008 at PetSmart, where she apprenticed under Animal Behaviorist, Lisa Sutton. After a successful run with PetSmart, she moved on to Petco, where, because of her unique Behavior Specialist skills, she was promoted to District Dog Training Mentor. As a Mentor, she trained dozens of brand new dog trainers in her district.
While working at Petco, Alex began volunteering with Long Beach Animal Care Services. As a volunteer, she helped rehabilitate shelter dogs who were scared, anxious, or aggressive, and made them ready for adoption. During her time as a volunteer, Alex helped raise the adoption rate to over 60%, and was offered a job with the City of Long Beach as the Dog Trainer and Adoption/Rescue Coordinator. During her first year at LBACS, Alex helped over 1,200 shelter animals find homes, and raised the adoption/rescue rate to over 84%. Assemblymember Bonnie Lowenthal recognized Alex’s accomplishments at the shelter by awarding Alex with the "30 Under 30" award for outstanding leadership among women under the age of 30 in Long Beach.
Alex has attended many behavior modification and dog training seminars with national experts, including Michael Shikashio and Sue Sternberg. Alex continues to grow her dog training and behavior modification skills by attending professional conferences and trainings every year. She works closely with many local rescue groups providing behavior modification and training and is referred to by many local veterinarians and animal control agencies for her behavior expertise. For years, Alex wrote a successful dog training column for the Long Beach Post and has been sought out for her expertise by local government agencies. Alex also provides training to many companies in the pet industry.
Alex's true passion in life is helping dogs and families in need. She specializes in rehabilitating dogs with severe behavior issues such as aggression and separation anxiety, and looks forward to helping more dogs live happy, healthy lives with their loved ones.
Alex is licensed by the Certification Council of Professional Dog Trainers. She is also a member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers, and the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants. She serves Los Angeles and Orange Counties, and currently resides in Long Beach with her family.
